Meet Stephanie Garrison : Fused Glass

Stephanie GarrisonStephanie GarrisonStephanie Garrison

Glass is beautiful to the eye and hand. It shimmers and reflects. It’s smooth and cool to the touch. It’s forever changing depending on how you look at it.

My interest in pursuing fused glass began when I saw a demonstration on an HGTV program. I thought, “Wow, that’s so cool!” I’ve never seen anything like it before. I immediately signed up for some fused glass classes and I was hooked!

Creating my fused glass art, I start with clear glass and color the glass with powdered glass enamels. By coloring the glass, it allows me more control over the depths of color and contrast. The glass is then cut and layered like a sandwich and put in the kiln to be fused (melted) together. When opening the kiln, it’s like unwrapping a present. You never know what you’re going to find…no two pieces of glass are the same!

Stephanie Garrison is a Calvert County, MD resident. She attended the University of Maryland where she studied textile design and graduated with a B.S. in Textile Marketing. She studied fused glass at Maryland Hall of for the Creative Arts and has been working with glass for over five years. Her fused glass art can be found in galleries across the United States.
